How to Make a Faux Fur Coat
I’ve teamed up with Fabric.com to share a sewing tutorial for this adorable fur coat. They have a great selection of faux fur, and I chose this one because it had the best pattern. The full step-by-step instructions are at the bottom of this post. You’ll need: 1 yard faux fur and 1 yard lining.
Can you make a fur coat smaller?
If there is enough material, your furrier may be able to lower the hem, allowing you to enjoy a longer coat; however, in most cases, the furrier can only shorten the hem, giving you a shorter coat than you had previously.
How should a fur coat fit?
Unlike fabric coats, which can be worn loose, snug, or tight depending on your preferences, fur coats should be worn snugly; due to the fluffy texture, only a fur coat that fits snugly and u201csitsu201d right on your body will give you the fashionable look you want.

How do you process fur?
Remove the animal from the de-bugging bag and use the comb and brush to remove dirt, twigs, seeds, and other debris. Carefully remove cockleburs to avoid pulling out guard hairs. Dry the fur before skinning.
How do you bag a jacket lining?
Pin into place and sew along the bottom hem on both sides, but leave an 8u2032u2032 gap around the center of the coat to pull everything right side out later (bagging a lining is usually done through the sleeve, but I find it easier to do this way).
How much does it cost to get a coat relined?
Relining a sport coat or suit jacket will cost $75 to $85 plus materials, with poly costing $15 to $20 and bemberg costing $20 to $25.
Should lining be smaller?
Adjust the hem lining to be 12u201d to 1u201d shorter than the garment to avoid the lining showing on hems. Lining needs to be slightly smaller than your garment, so add 1/8u201d to your seam allowance when sewing.
How do I keep my fur from shedding?
Brush the fur like you would a cat if shedding persists, or use a masking tape lint roller rolled against the grain of the fur to shed loose fibers.

How do you sew fur on moccasins?
Turn the moccasin inside out and tack the fur to the inside of the moccasin with the right side of the fur facing the right side of the moccasin. Sew from the heel seam all around the foot back to the heel using an overcast stitch. Trim any extra length and sew the two ends of the fur together.
