Face Mask Patterns Without Pleats – 2 Designs & Tutorials
Sewing a pleated face mask can be tedious and time-consuming.
Materials needed:
Try 7u2033 to 8u2033 per ear for elastic ear hooks, and 24u2033 for elastic that goes around the head. You can make ties out of strips of fabric, 1u2033 t-shirt strips, bias-binding, and other materials. I’m using Gutermann polyester thread because it’s strong and doesn’t lint much.

Measure yourself from ear to ear and nose bridge to under the chin for a custom fit; for ties that go around the head, try 40u2033. You can make ties out of fabric strips, 1u2033 t-shirt strips, bias-binding, and other materials.

You’ll need a universal needle in size 80/12 for light to medium weight woven fabrics. I’m making type A with no filter pocket or nose wire; you can do elastic ear hooks or make it go around the head.

What thread should I use for stretchy fabric?
Textured polyester or textured nylon threads, such as A, are the most common threads used to sew stretch knit fabrics.
