Easy Small Zipper Pouch Coin Purse Tutorial
These coin zipper pouches are also great for credit cards, gift cards, and business cards, and you can keep a copy near your sewing machine for easy reference.
Supplies needed
If you don’t have these tools, make a template measuring 5 1/2 inches wide by 4 inches high, pin it to your fabric, and cut out the pieces with sewing scissors.
Attach your fusible interfacing
Pellon’s fusible interfacing is the perfect weight for sewing zipper pouches, handbags, and other similar projects. Press each piece of interfacing until fused using the cotton steam setting on your iron.
Add the zipper
The length of a zipper is 4 inches, measured from the top metal stop to the bottom metal stop. As a rule of thumb, your fabric pieces should be 1 1/2 inches wider than the length of your zipper. The zipper should be sandwiched right sides together between the outer and lining fabric pieces.
Sew the zipper
Stitch the zipper to the fabric with your sewing machine and zipper foot. Fold each fabric piece down so the wrong sides are facing each other and straight stitch along the top to give it a finished look and prevent the fabric from getting caught in the zipper.
Repeat with the other fabric pieces
Fold the outer and lining fabrics wrong sides together and straight stitch them together, then finish the inside of the zipper with the zipper foot.
