Often asked: How To Sew Glider Cushion Covers By Hand?

DIY | How To Make Nursery Glider Slipcovers

I took a tired glider/rocker and made new slipcovers for it in a modern print for my daughter’s new nursery. Here’s a simple tutorial for DIY glider slipcovers if you want to try your hand at making your own.

Back Glider Cushion Slipcover

I’ve never made a slipcover before, and I don’t know how to sew, so this tutorial is geared toward beginners based on what worked for me. Slipcovers are simple to make and are removable and washable.

Adding Ties

After that, I made ties to secure the cushion to the glider frame, and that’s it for your glider’s back cushion – now all you have to do is add some cushions!

Seat Cushion Slipcover

I pinned and tacked all the way around the cushion again, aiming to keep the seam at the bottom of the pad rather than in the middle, and I put the cushion back in to test the fit.

Adjusting the Fit

Simply adjust the pins and sew a new seam; the second time I tried it on, it fit me perfectly!

Velcro Closure

To attach the cushion to the machine, I pinned the Velcro on underneath the cushion, removed it, and sewed around the edges, using the top row of pins as a guide to ensure I left enough fabric for a neat closure.

One More Tie

This one was shorter, wider, and attached with velcro rather than a regular cord.
