Three different methods of making doll hair.
Crocheting a cap out of mohair or wool and brushing it out for a more natural effect; embroidery for shorter hair or boys hair; each of these methods takes time, but the results can be amazing!
Making a crochet cap
Starting with a magic ring of 6 stitches and working your way around, adding stitches to fit the size of your doll’s head is the easiest method I’ve found for learning how to crochet.
The first method
I like to put tiny little pigtails in my daughter’s doll’s hair, but I also like it to be naturally messy! Keep brushing around until you are happy with how the hair looks, and don’t forget to brush the outside edge as well! This will help blend the cap to the face and make it more realistic.
The second method
Crocheting the hair into a ballerina-style cap with a ball of yarn at the top and sides is the second method.
Attaching the wig to the dolls head
Stitch 3x around the wig to reinforce the hair and make it durable against those who wish to carry their dolls around by the hair, and I recommend using the ladder stitch.
Embroidering a head of hair for a boy doll or shorter contact hair.
It took me about 5-7 hours to make a baby doll’s head out of embroidery thread, and it was a simple project to take with me and work on whenever I had free time. I used three strands of embroidering thread for the thicker hair at the back of the head.

How do you put hair on a doll’s wig cap?
Attaching the hair Begin by taking a small section of hair and trimming the edges to make them neat. Place each section on the wig cap and secure with PVA/Elmer’s glue. Work in layers, adding small sections of hair above the already glued ones, until you reach the top of the head.
