Applique Part 3 – Machine Applique Stitches
The zig zag stitch (satin or narrow), the blanket stitch, and a straight stitch are the most common stitches used with fusible applique. You will need two pieces of muslin or solid fabric cut into rectangles that are about 6u2033 x 8u2033 and a piece of stabilizer. Make sure to write down the setting next to your stitches with a permanent pen.
For machine applique, you’ll need thread and stabilizer. I like to use DMC machine embroidery thread, which is a 50 wt, 3-ply cotton, but you could also use polyester or rayon thread to give your applique more shine and pop. 1.
