Pattern Hackers: How to Draft a Funnel Neck

This month, we’ll show you how to add a funnel neck to your Oliver top, which is a simple hack for making almost any top cold-weather ready. We’ll also show you how to lengthen your Oliver top into a dress and add a kangaroo pocket.
HACK ONE: Funnel Neck
Fold the funnel neck unit in half lengthwise, label it “Funnel neck, cut 1 on fold,” and pin it to the top. Measure the neckline of the front and back pieces of the Oliver top. This measurement will be half of the total neckline.

How do you make a stand up collar?

- Place collar pieces face-to-face and stitch around the outer edge of the collars.
- Press lower edge of outer collar stand upwards to secure seam allowance.
- Place collar between collar stands and stitch together.
- Turn to face and press neatly.
How do you make a funnel neck?
Fold the funnel neck tube in half width wise, wrong sides together, lining up the shorter ends. Sew 1/4u2032u2032 from the raw edge with a zig zag stitch or serger. Press the seam open or to one side.
How do you draft a built up neckline?
Begin with the center back pattern piece, extending the center back line up 2u2032u2032. Square a line over to the shoulder from the center back line. Blend a softly curved line to meet the new raised neckline seam from the edge of the pattern at the shoulder.
